Glamour Lit

These books are hip, sassy, glamourous, and sometimes snobby. The characters usually are either working for the entertainment industry, have a glamourous career, or are rich heiresses themselves. For a dishy, light read, this is the sub-genre for you. Many of these books are more widely read than other chick lit, which means a lot of them are hardcover. We have divided this page into three categories to make navigation easier: Park Avenue/Gossip Lit are book that take place on Park Avenue and are often filled with snobbery and backstabbing; Glamorous Career Lit are books with characters working in the fashion, movie or publishing industry. Tell-all memoirs from ex-nannies or assitants are in this category; Famous Lit feature stories about characters that are famous themselves.*

I would also suggest Marian Keyes and Sophia Kinsella as two wonderful authors that fit into this category.

The Nanny Diaries:These two former Manhattan nannies caught my attention with the humorous portraits of the “rich society” becoming mothers. The book wraps the reader around the life of an educated NYU senior college student (the nanny) from the first interview to the last day at work. It traces the lines of bringing up a child in a posh society that depicts children as accessories instead of human beings. This is a wonderful read that can be read over the weekend or between kids naps. Anyone whom enjoys kids will love this book.

I personally did not like Bergdorf Blondes by Plum Sykes.
