It’s no secret that I love Glamour chick lit and Single City Girl lit, so when a book comes along that falls into both categories, I am usually quick to snatch it up. Everyone Worth Knowing by Lauren Weisberger is such a book.

After quitting her stuffy Manhattan banking job, 27-year old Bette doesn’t quite know what to do with herself. She manages to land, through a series of lucky coincidences, a job at one of the hottest PR firms in town. Her life is suddenly filled with parties and glamourous events - not to mention a new man or two. Philip Weston is one of the most notorious and handsome bachelors in Manhattan, and Bette finds herself dating him- sort of. Then she meets the charismatic Sammy, who seems to be a great guy, but he is only a bouncer and doesn’t seem to fit into Bette’s glitzy new life. Or does he? While all of this is going on, Bette is starting to drift away from her best friend Penelope, who is meanwhile engaged to a complete and utter jerk.

When Bette becomes the center of a popular gossip column, her life is suddenly thrust into the spotlight. But when the gossip column turns nasty and vicious, Bette must decide what is more important: her job and career, or her personal life. The question is, where does one end and the other begin?

I totally adored Everyone Worth Knowing. As with her last book “Devil Wears Prada”, Weisberger’s writing style really did it for me. She has a way of telling a story that keeps me turning pages until the end, regardless of how late it is. Filled with over-the-top characters behaving badly and a breathlessly-paced plot, this is definitely a book worth the hardcover price in my opinion. This novel is sort of like a combination of Glamour Lit, Working Girl Lit and Single City Girl lit all thrown together. Best of all, the romance side plots were well crafted and kept the tension building.

There were just a few small things that set me back a little. I couldn’t figure out how and why Philip Weston’s personality and character were so different from the beginning of the novel as opposed to the end. There was also a bit of predictability in this book, and the fact that one has to suspend quite a bit of disbelief because of the plot’s outrageousness.

However, I still recommend this book to anyone who likes a sinfully glamourous read with a surprisingly down-to-earth heroine.
